The Journey Begins

Welcome to my blog!

I thought I’d start by giving you a little background on who am I and what I currently do.

I’m Jovi and I’m a 25 year old student radiographer based in Stoke-on-Trent. I’m currently studying at Bangor University and I’m heading swiftly into my final year (eek!). As well as studying, I have a few part time jobs, one in First Aiding, one as a Safety Steward and two bar jobs. It’s safe to say my timetable is a bit hectic.

The idea for this blog came from a desire to travel to Nepal for an elective placement where I will be volunteering in healthcare this September. So far, I have raised an incredible £1200 through fundraising on Facebook which has made me realise I am surrounding by the most wonderful people!

Whilst in Nepal, I am hoping to experience the diverse culture and landscape, as well as work within the communities to educate the locals on a hygiene and other basic healthcare.

My journey to Nepal begins on the 28th August 2018 with the healthcare programme beginning on the 1st September. I am heading out to work with a company called GVI and couldn’t be more excited!

The First Aid company I work for called RTC Medical Solutions will be sponsoring my trip to Nepal and I can not thank them enough for their continued support over the past few months.

The reason I have called it On A Shoestring is because I will be travelling everywhere on a tight budget due to the constraints of working part time and studying full time. However, I feel this will be beneficial to me as I will experience the best and worst of everywhere I visit and hopefully meet some new and quirky people along the way!

I’m hoping you’ll enjoy my posts!

Bye for now!
